Playmaker: Channing Glick
By John Evered: Playmaker Recruiting Analyst
Overview
Channing Glick is a competitive player who is making up for lost time in his football journey. Originally a baseball player, Glick committed to playing football full time at the tail end of his sophomore year. He has the ability to work around press coverage and use his lateral speed to create separation. Glick has the ability to be physical, with many of his yards coming after contact and gains positioning using his prowess for field spacing. He’s able to make contact and doesn’t shy away from a safety and linebacker coming downfield in order to gain extra yards. He draws 3 or 4 defenders on plays through the middle of the field, requiring multiple players to make a tackle on a simple route. I like Channing Glick as a player and he’s under-recruited for his tape. I’ve watched much worse tape with many more offers across different collegiate levels and he deserves to hear about more available opportunities based on who he is as a player and the level of hunger he’s displayed in conversation with me. Glick recorded 120 yards on 6 catches to complement with a touchdown helping to defeat Plainfield High School, who are currently the 25th ranked team in Indiana and third in conference play.
Strengths
Great natural feel for the game
Consistently gains yards after contact, typically routinely breaking the first tackle
Secures the ball before being tackled, ensures the ball is caught before running
Pins defender and battles to maintain top position on possession routes.
Stop and go ability is elite for not having prioritized football for as long as he has
Able to out-run defensive backs in a street race to the end zone
Great use of his off hand to stiff arm defenders to create separation
Weaknesses
Has naturally fast speed, but on some routes, there is a slower, lazier get off
Needs to put on more physical size to be a mid to high division one wide receiver
Should put an arm up quicker when he creates space to improve communication with his quarterback
